 Artist Statement:

I've been living in Faerie half my life. (In my mind of course) with the help of authors like @blackholly

I love many, many books and countless worlds, but faerie, specifically Elfhame, always feels like home to me. I just finished reading "How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories" which is an absolutely gorgeous book by Holly, illustrated by @rovinacai. It sparked something in me, and I wanted to create a banquet fit for a fae party.

So, here is the latest Literary inspired still life: "Revel at Hollow Hall" A candlelit feast for the senses, dark and lush, dripping with fruits and savory foragings. Inspired in particular by the passages in The Folk Of the Air series that detailed the sumptuous, wild revels here. Debauchery, drink and food.

The descriptions of food in faerie lit are just the most mouthwatering, luscious things you can imagine. Glowing, glistening, sparkling things I could never make with my cooking skills... so I imagined that perhaps this was a last minute party wherein things were gathered and tossed haphazard on the table.

I also made sure to include an untouched loaf of bread. In 16th century Dutch still life, where I draw almost all my inspiration, an unbroken loaf of bread, implied ignored salvation in favor of lust or exorbitance. Pomegranates signified immortality. Faeries are exorbitant immortals so I felt it important to include both.
